A COMMITMENT TO SERVICE

This week before our July 16th Millbrook Farmers Market, I want to extend a big THANK YOU and appreciation to the men and women of our community who volunteer their time and service as first responders.  In a way of showing our appreciation, this weekend’s Farmers Market will be focused on our first responders.

For those that do not know, many of our first responders, particularly our fire department are volunteers and commit themselves 24/7 to being available when there is an emergency.  When others run from danger, they run right to it.  I also want to thank their families, for they are just as important in supporting those we depend on.  They carry the burden of lives disrupted, family gatherings put on pause and the worry that when their loved one leaves on a call, of not knowing if they will return home safely.  Thank you and may you all return home safety from every call you are called out on.

Please come by this Saturday to the Farmers Market.  Meet the volunteers, the firefighters and rescue teams of our community, many are your friends and neighbors and thank them for the job they do.  If you have recently moved to the area, here is a chance to find out how you can help, maybe even you’ll ask about volunteering.  The success of small communities is dependent up the members of the community coming together and doing the jobs that need doing and nothing symbolizes more than the Fire Department.  Let’s not take what they do for granted, and let’s show them our support and appreciation.  And also our appreciation for the fun filled Block Party and parade they ran last week.

The idea of service is going to be a thread in this Saturday’s Millbrook Farmers Market as we are also hosting the Iannucci Family this week in remembrance of Gino and Ginny Iannucci. Both Gino and Ginny were instrumental in running the Millbrook Farmers Market, keeping the market going and doing everything they could to help, assist and even mentor vendors so they could be successful.  They were some of the founding members of our Millbrook Farmers Market and brought fruit and vegetables from their gardens each week for many decades. They demonstrated over the years a commitment to the market and in turn our community.  In fact, the Iannucci family is still considered a part of the Millbrook Farmers Market and the family will be selling blueberries Saturday with proceeds going to The Children's Legacy Partnership www.ourclp.org

At first, I thought perhaps it would be too much, having both the Millbrook Fire Department and the Iannucci family attend on the same day, but I’m coming to see that it is appropriate that both are there this weekend, because the linking thread is an unwavering commitment to our Millbrook Community. Each in their own way are clear examples of volunteering and stepping up to serve the needs of the communities.  We are so blessed to not only have people like Gino and Ginny, and members of the Millbrook Fire Department involved and shaping our community but also so many other groups, organizations and individuals who contribute their time, energy and expertise in a variety of ways to the Millbrook community.  And to those others, you have my thanks and appreciation for what you do.  I’m already thinking about how we can expand on this next year, so stay tuned.

Thank you all for your ongoing support and patronage at the market. Look forward to seeing you this Saturday and as always please feel free to stop by and say hello to me.
